Gae Aulenti, 50 years of Italian design, Trennale di Milano, Viale Emilio Alemagna 6, Milan, Italy, 2001
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of building the first real catwalk in Italy, Gae Aulenti was asked to design an exhibit celebrating and reviewing Italian culture. The title was “50 years of Italian Design”. The contents about fashion, cuisine, art and cinema was developed through five sections titled Belvedere, Memoria, Brokenhaus, Sapori and Allegoria. Memoria section came from a need to present fashion and design as a significant piece of Italian history. The exhibition consisted of news and stories, illustrated with a chaotic composition of installation, performances, big headlines printed on large flags and screens showing short movies. Each objects of the exhibit were flashingly appearing one after the another, making the visitors surprised and absorbed by the narration.
