Piergiaccomo and Achille Castiglioni were born in 1913 and 1918, both in Milano. They graduated at Politecnico di Milano in architecture. Throughout their carriers, they dedicated their time to research in the fields of city planning and construction industry, and more importantly to research on Design. They worked together on the experimentation of industrial products. Achille is part of the founders of the Association for the Industrial Design. His style is characterized by the search of consistency between shape and function, and is all based on the functionality of the item.
The Stanza da pranzo of this Florentine house has a fantastic emotional charge. It is not provoked by the entire entity, but by every single object : the stairway, the shelf, the stilt … all chosen from mass production. They are deliberately not structurally disposed, in order to stimulate the user’s mind so that he creates his own disposal order.
