Giovanni Pónti was born in Milan and studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. After studies he worked as an industrial designer, furniture designer and publisher. Casa al mare is one of the first small beach houses in Bordighera. It combines simplicity and practicality, with white walls and a patio open to the sea. A ladder in the wall rises form the patio to a flat roof. The indoor and outdoor consists of a ceramic floor.
“…a floor plan that guarantees to stay the dual opportunity to establish direct contact on the one hand – without the interposition of other spaces – with the seascape, and from other hand to extend towards a semi-enclosed room and a lookout at the same time protected by walls and equally dedicated to the sea.” (Mediterranei Traduzioni della modernità; P. Carlotti, D. Nencini, P. Posocco).
